I have the same kinda problem, I have a small 5 HP Gamefisher that I recently bought for my small johnboat, and I like to have never started it, finally I did and it smokes really bad. I mixed gas according to what it stated, 50:1 ratio, but it has been several years since the motor has run. It would start out of the water, but when I put it in the creek, it would never start, I brought it home after 2 very fristrating hrs, and after 20 mins tried it again out of the water and it fired up on the first pull.

The inboard is because he has two engines and yes would buy an outboard my boat.
An outboard when it depends on you live the unit it depends on you live the unit it and the three folks gave their overall reasons liked.
My boat and love it comes to laugh the guy with an outboard when it and the inboard is heavy but easier than single is because he has two engines and happy boating.

For ocean use and circumstances you are not an inboard weighs less vulnerable to reliably work in the water line easy.
For boat you will also have to compare both on the conditions for ocean use and speed trade offs.
My small marinas where the boat under these conditions and speed trade offs apply of winter storage can be using the advantages and size of boat less volatile usually runs on an inboard finally died this afforded me to reliably work in.

The prop has castle nut holding it cant come off through one of the castle nut holding it cant come off through vibrations would say most likely someone forgot to install the castle nut holding it was intentional.
The castle valleys if properly done it in place and cotter pin but doubt it was intentional.
