Deck Boat or Pontoon boat? I am confused?

I would like to buy my first boat, I have 3 small children and I go by a Lake nice quiet here in TN. I can only measure a boat 20ft on my garage. What is the main difference from a boat Platform or pontoon boat, both seem similar The inside, but the handle, strascicante very different? I appreciate all the inputs, thanks for your help! David
