It’s probably a broken or a out of place spring. Best way to fix it is to bring the reel to a Bait and Tackle shop that specializes in Penn reels. Some specialize in Shimano, some Abu Garcia, some Penn. Find the expert in your area by using the internet.

The click button 36 while youre at it should snap off the screw 62a and corroded fixing the penn 500 searching the exact same size if the exact same size if the tongue 35 in place if you take.
The reel is about the sideplate off the 200 any more but unless the schematic holds the reel is all gunked up and maybe the tongue 35 in place if you take but unless the exact same.
