Yamaha outboard 1991 70hp yellow oil alert and overheat buzzer?

AQUAHOLIC, am I correct in saying the oil pump stops sending oil to the engine once the gauge show the yellow alert on tach? Maybe a new sensor will take care of my oil alert and my overheat.
